Empowering Health and Care for Preterm Infants and Newborns in Africa
Selina is a mother of a surviving preterm child born in Africa. She is an international speaker, advocate for Maternal and Newborn Health and the Founder and Executive Director of the African Foundation for Premature Babies and Neonatal Care (AFPNC). She is a Human Resource Professional with over 10 years’ experience in working on local and international human capital development projects, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Human Resource Management), certificates in Strategic Planning, Project Management and Communication from Ghana and Germany. Currently, she is training to be a Lawyer. In August 2016, the Ghana Health Service appointed her as a member of the Advocacy & Communication Sub-Committee for National Newborn and Child Health. She was featured and contributed to a 2018 joint report by World Health Organization and UNICEF titled ‘Survive & Thrive: Transforming care for every small and sick baby’. In Africa, she has pioneered several intervention initiatives, policy, research projects in her capacity as a Parent Representative and the Executive Director of AFPNC. Selina is a Parent Advisory Board member of the EFCNI and a member of the founding committee of the Global Alliance for Newborn Care(GLANCE).In January 2019,she became the first African and youngest woman to receive a prestigious award from EFCNI(Germany) for her outstanding work Head, Project and Finance
Gakpetor Atsu Gbedevi (MCIM,MBA Fin,BSc HRM) is a Strategist with over ten(10) years experience in Project Management and Consulting for multi-national companies including not-for-profit organizations. He holds MBA in Finance and Bachelors in Administration (Human Resource Management) and a trained Marketer by CIM UK. Atsu is inspired by the impact stories of the beneficiaries of AFPNC’s intervention initiatives and is committed to developing sustainable projects. He joined in 2018.
Joanna Abbab Esp. is a mother of a surviving preterm child in Ghana, Africa. Her daughter was born at 29 weeks gestation and weighed 1.3kg. She is a corporate lawyer by profession with extensive experience in advising local and multinational clients on corporate legal matters in diverse fields including not-for-profit organizations. She is passionate about advocacy for improvement in the healthcare delivery systems in Africa especially for mothers and newborn infants. Joanna joined AFPNC in 2018 and heads the legal department.
Georgina is professional nurse and counsellor with over thirty (30) years experience in health service. She is very passionate about family centered care and an advocate for improved access to quality health care among deprived communities. Through her intervention initiatives, she has reached out to over 20,000 mothers and children in rural urban communities in Ghana over the past fifteen (15) years. Georgina’s grandchild was born premature at 6months gestation and weighed 1.4kg. She joined the AFPNC team in 2015 and through her experience as a grandmother of a preemie survivor, she is inspired to support affected families in Ghana and beyond.
Eunice is a Senior Communications strategist, she leads the AFPNC team to develop and implement effective internal and external communications. And also contribute to the increased visibility and understanding of the AFPNC vision and purpose. She is an accredited member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and a member of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana. She holds an MPhil in Communications & Media Studies and a Bachelors Degree in English. Eunice is passionate about advocacy for women and child health. She joined the AFPNC in 2019.
Eugene is a member of the AFPNC communications team with over four years experience in new media, advertising, graphic design and journalism. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English with History and an MPhil in Communication Studies from the University of Ghana, Accra where he also serves as Graduate Assistant at the School of Information and Communication Studies. He joined the AFPNC in 2019.
